Proposed Crichton gas station raises neighbors' concerns
SUMMARY: Residents of a Kryon neighborhood are opposing a proposed Murphy Oil gas station at the corner of Mobile Street and Spring Hill Avenue, which they fear will increase traffic and diminish their community’s quality of life. The project could replace a home and disrupt 15 years of established neighborhood ties. Concerns include heightened traffic congestion at an already busy intersection, potential decreases in property values, and increased crime rates. Residents highlight public safety issues, fearing that the station will endanger access to emergency care. The Mobile Planning Commission is set to review the subdivision and rezoning proposals, with locals hoping for a rejection.
The 15 homes in the Del Barco Drive neighborhood in Crichton could soon be reduced to 14 due to a massive construction proposal that the Mobile Planning Commission could approve on Thursday.

Hoover residents fight EBSCO apartment project rezoning near Highway 280
SUMMARY: EBSCO plans to develop a vacant lot northeast of Publix, near Highways 119 and 280, into a complex featuring over 1,200 residential units, a hotel, and various shops. However, more than 1,200 local residents, led by Ashleigh Lavelle, have signed a petition opposing the project, fearing it will diminish their quality of life. The land is currently zoned for commercial use, a status intended to benefit the community, but EBSCO seeks to change it to residential. Community members express concerns about increased traffic and density. The zoning commission is set to vote on the plan, with potential council review afterwards.
