Prolonged drought affects Mississippi hay farmers

SUMMARY: Mississippi hay growers harvested at least 28% less hay this year due to extreme drought in parts of the state. Brett Rushing of Mississippi State University said that the drought most affected central and south Mississippi regions and is still ongoing. The state is reportedly about 15 inches below its average accumulated rainfall. Despite the poor harvest this year, producers who saved extra hay last year have stored forage to help make up for the deficit.
