SUMMARY: Professor Fitzhugh Brundage and Professor Charles Reagan Wilson recently spoke at the two Mississippi museums about Brundage’s latest book, “A New History of the American South.” The lunch program, organized by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, is a popular event that attracts audiences from both Mississippi and around the world. Wilson, who mentored Brundage during his undergraduate days at Harvard, interviewed Brundage during the event. Attendees had the opportunity to buy books and have them signed by the professors. The next lunch program will feature author Elizabeth Boyd discussing “Southern Beauty.”

On Wednesday, Fitzhugh Brundage, William Umstead Distinguished Professor of History at the University of North Carolina, and Charles Reagan Wilson, Professor Emeritus of History and Southern Studies at the University of Mississippi, took center stage Wednesday afternoon at the Two Mississippi Museum’s weekly History is Lunch series. Wilson presented “A New History of the American South” at the program. SUMMARY: The Stewpot Opportunity Center in Jackson is responding to dangerously cold temperatures by extending its hours to 22 per day and providing shelter for up to 30 people. The center ensures guests receive food, clothing, hygiene items, hot meals, showers, and rest, with activities like movies to help them stay comfortable. Director Javonda Stanton emphasizes that it is inhumane for people to be left outside in the cold, which can lead to conditions like hypothermia and frostbite. The city is also reopening a temporary shelter at Champion Gym in partnership with Shower Power for those in need.
