Prisons going through hot temperatures without air conditioning
SUMMARY: Several prisons across the US are operating without air conditioning despite temperatures reaching 115 degrees, according to a recent report. The Mississippi Corrections Commissioner has pledged to fit air conditioning units in all correctional facilities, but it could be 18 months before this is complete. Until then, prisoners will be provided with three daily ice cups for relief and to prevent heat exhaustion. A statement by MDOC claims that implementing AC in all seven state-owned facilities is unaffordable, and measures such as hydration, ice and fans will be used as cooling methods.
