Preseason Picks for the SWAC released at Media Day

SUMMARY: In terms of rankings, JSU and Alcorn State were projected to finish second in their divisions, while Mississippi Valley was expected to place fifth in the East. Among the Mississippi SWAC teams, Alcorn State had the most first team picks, along with two second team selections and a long snapper. Mississippi Valley’s kicker made the All SWAC team, while JSU had only one player, DJ Stevens at tight end, make the preseason team. Despite feeling slighted, TC Taylor, the coach of the two-time defending conference champs, said it was alright.

The SWAC released their favorites for the upcoming season with their all-preseason teams and predicted order of finish. The coaches reacted to the selections during SWAC Media Day in Birmingham. Alcorn State led the way for Mississippi programs with 7 preseason picks but JSU and MVSU only had one.
