Potential outdoor fee increase raises questions about agency funding | Tennessee
SUMMARY: The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) has cut its fiscal year 2026 budget by $800,000 but faces rising costs, leading to potential fee increases for hunting, fishing, and boat registration. Limited funding and staffing have delayed maintenance on 1,200 boat ramps and public access areas. Recent cuts also restrict complimentary magazine distribution for license holders. Proposed fee hikes range from 27% to 30%, with significant increases for permits. TWRA primarily relies on license fees for revenue, unlike other states that receive sales tax contributions. Public comments on the proposed changes will be accepted until November 30, with a hearing on December 6.

Successful implementations of Vision Zero in cities like Hoboken and Alexandria have resulted in zero traffic deaths over the past five years. Knoxville has committed $22 million to safety projects, mostly funded by federal sources.
A presentation about the city’s work to totally eliminate traffic deaths revealed dozens of people died in fatal crashes in 2023.

Metro Water Services identifies lead pipes
SUMMARY: Metro Water Services is actively identifying lead pipes in Nashville following a new rule from the Biden-Harris Administration mandating lead pipe replacements within the next decade. Although drinking water is free from lead when it leaves treatment plants, old lead pipes can leach the metal into the water, posing health risks. Metro Water has been assessing residential lines using metal analyzers to gather data on pipe materials. Their efforts have resulted in an online map displaying residential pipe types. While Metro’s lead levels are low, pipe replacements may take years, and residents are encouraged to coordinate with Metro before replacing any lines.
Metro Water Services employees went door-to-door in Nashville identifying lead pipes in residential spaces.
