Pontotoc County jail saves money with fresh-grown corn

SUMMARY: The Ponak County Sheriff’s Department has been busy harvesting fresh corn from their jail garden, which is maintained by inmates and staff. The sheriff’s department boasts one of the largest working farm facilities, producing various vegetables such as squash, peas, green beans, and cabbage. The farm’s mission is to feed inmates and save taxpayer money, reducing meal costs to just over a dollar per day per inmate. During harvest season, the jail delivers 300 to 500 pounds of fresh vegetables daily for its meal programs. Additionally, they also raise chickens to further supplement food resources.

The Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office has been busy shucking fresh corn from the jail garden over the past few days.

East Union girls powerlifting continues streak of dominance
