FEMA changes in Senate bill filed before Helene, Milton | North Carolina
SUMMARY: Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Gary Peters (D-MI) have introduced the Disaster Survivors Fairness Act of 2024, aimed at reforming FEMA’s disaster assistance process amid growing concerns over the agency’s efficiency. The legislation, stalled in committee since September 17, seeks to provide communities with more flexibility for receiving aid, enhance mitigation funding, and support innovative housing solutions post-disaster. This comes after Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused severe destruction, leaving many still in need of assistance. Advocates argue the current FEMA processes are too rigid and slow, highlighting the need for urgent reforms to better support disaster recovery efforts.

Protesters demand Kellogg remove artificial colors from Froot Loops and other cereals
SUMMARY: About a thousand protesters gathered outside Kellogg’s Michigan headquarters, demanding the removal of artificial dyes from U.S. cereals. Mothers expressed concern over feeding their children healthy foods free of chemicals. While Kellogg pledged nearly ten years ago to eliminate artificial colors in other countries, U.S. products like Froot Loops still contain dyes linked to potential behavioral issues in children. California recently banned such dyes in public school food. Despite criticisms, Kellogg maintains its products meet federal standards, and the FDA states most children do not experience adverse effects; however, critics argue the FDA’s criteria overlook possible neurological impacts.
Dozens of people rallied outside the Michigan headquarters of WK Kellogg Co. Tuesday, demanding that the company remove artificial dyes from its breakfast cereals in the U.S.
