More fires may ignite across Oklahoma if state doesn't get rain, Forestry Service official says
SUMMARY: Throughout this week, Oklahoma has experienced heightened fire activity, with 105 fires consuming over 2,400 acres. Grass fires ignited in the northern metro area, including Edmond and along I-35. The Oklahoma Forestry Service warns that fire risks will persist into the weekend due to dry conditions and the approaching dormant season, which typically yields more flammable materials. Rainfall has been sparse, with over 25 days since significant precipitation. As a result, 24 out of 77 counties have instituted burn bans, although a statewide governor’s burn ban has not yet been declared, with conditions under daily review.

Grand jury investigation uncovers mismanagement in pandemic education relief funds
SUMMARY: The Oklahoma Attorney General‘s Office has criticized the handling of $40 million in federal COVID relief funds intended for struggling families, labeling it as “irresponsible, disappointing, and indefensible.” A recent grand jury report concluded that Governor Kevin Stitt and State Superintendent Ryan Walters lacked oversight, preventing vulnerable families from accessing aid during the pandemic. Stitt ignored federal recommendations and entrusted the distribution to nonprofit organizations aligned with school choice, leading to questionable practices, including early access for select families. While the grand jury did not find criminal wrongdoing, ongoing investigations may continue, with calls for further scrutiny from state lawmakers.
