SUMMARY: The weekend has been pleasant, with temperatures reaching a high of 53°F and no rain reported. Despite a deficit in precipitation for January, hopes are high for more rain this month. Tonight, dense fog may form in the valley, impacting visibility, but sunny conditions are expected by late morning. Temperatures will increase, with highs near 60°F tomorrow and potentially close to 70°F by midweek, accompanied by a possibility of rain and thunderstorms. The following week should see above-average temperatures despite a front, which may bring additional rainfall and help alleviate drought conditions.

SUMMARY: Tensions are escalating in Townsend over a proposed event center, with community members expressing concerns that it could disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the Smokies. During a meeting, locals criticized the Blount Partnership, claiming it prioritizes profit over citizens’ interests. Mayor Don Prader clarified that the city did not reject events, contrary to rumors, and emphasized the importance of the visitor center for the community.
