Pine Belt shelter receives grant funds to combat human trafficking

SUMMARY: Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the distribution of $2.8 million in grants to organizations serving victims of human trafficking and commercial exploitation in Mississippi. The grants will give these organizations the opportunity to provide more services for the victims. This is the second round of grants from the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Exploitation Fund, which was created by the Mississippi attorney general. The grants come from the victims and will be distributed to nine Mississippi organizations, including the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter. The shelter in the Pine Belt area received more than $93,000 in grant funds. They plan to use the money to continue serving victims of human trafficking. They will also be working with the University of Southern Mississippi to provide more services for the victims.
