Pine Belt law enforcement agencies discuss preventing DUIs during the summer

Over the Independence Day holiday, Mississippi troopers made 149 DUI arrests, issued 876 seat belt citations, and investigated 141 crashes in just four days. Sheriff Randy Johnson notes that DUI offenders range from teens to seniors. DUI convictions can result in severe penalties, including hefty fines and jail time, especially if they result in fatalities. Parents supplying alcohol to minors also risk legal consequences.
Summer is here, and people are traveling, socializing and drinking. But for law enforcement, this is the time when simple fun can have serious consequences.
