U.S. added 143,000 jobs in January, unemployment rate dips to 4%
SUMMARY: In January, the U.S. added 143,000 jobs, below the predicted 169,000, but the unemployment rate fell to 4%, better than expected. The Bureau of Labor Statistics revised previous months’ payrolls upward by 100,000 and lowered 2024 job growth estimates to 166,000 per month. Hiring rates are slowing, but the job market remains stable with positive executive sentiments regarding potential business improvements from tax cuts and deregulation. However, concerns about trade tariffs may impact economic growth, potentially leading to a GDP contraction of 1.5%.
