SUMMARY: Longtime Pedal Fire Chief Joe Henry is retiring after 14 years. He reflects on his time in the department and how it has changed. Starting his career in Hattisburg, he moved to PED in 2010, finding solace in the job after the loss of his son. With city support, he improved staffing and raised their department rating. Henry’s proudest accomplishment is training the department in life-saving techniques. Colleagues praise him as a great leader who has moved the department forward. He will miss the camaraderie and family-like atmosphere of the fire department once he retires. His presence will be greatly missed.

A Perry County native, Hendry spent 25 years working in Hattiesburg before moving over to Petal in 2010 to become chief of the Petal Fire Department.
