Petal church worried about safety of congregation getting on and off property
SUMMARY: Members of Mount Vernon Church in Petal are urging state leaders to improve safety access to their building. Reverend Carl Barrette highlighted the dangers of current traffic conditions on Highway 42, where members struggle to enter and exit the church safely. The issue is particularly problematic during funeral services, requiring lengthy U-turns. After a recent accident involving a church member, Barrette suggested moving the church driveway for direct access. The city has indicated that the matter falls under the Department of Transportation's jurisdiction. A meeting with local leaders is scheduled for July 12th to discuss potential solutions.
