SUMMARY: The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference awarded Pearl River women’s basketball team four All-Conference honors, as they head to the National Tournament. Taylor Johnson-Matthews earned First Team and Player of the Year, leading in points per game (18.3) and boasting significant achievements including scoring double-digit points in 27 of 31 games. Avery Young and Hama’ya Fielder, instrumental to the team’s success, were named to the Second Team. Head coach Scotty Fletcher was named Coach of the Year, having led the Wildcats to a historic season and their first NJCAA Tournament appearance since 2003. Pearl River now prepares for their NJCAA National Tournament game against Eastern Arizona.

In Class 7A, Ocean Springs achieved a comeback victory against Northwest Rankin, winning 24-17, and will face defending champion Oak Grove next. Gulfport lost 20-17 to Petal and was eliminated. In 6A, Picayune (10-2) will host George County (7-5) after both teams advanced from the first round. Pascagoula dominated Terry, winning 41-0. In 5A, Gautier edged Natchez 36-30, with quarterback Trey Irving leading the charge. Poplarville narrowly beat Columbia in 4A’s second round and will host McComb next.

SUMMARY: The Gulfport Admirals’ season ended in the first round of the state playoffs for the fourth consecutive year, losing 20-17 to Petal. After a slow start, Gulfport tied the game with a touchdown from Cooper Crosby, but Petal clinched victory with a 25-yard field goal in the final seconds.
