Pearl River Resort’s 30th anniversary celebration underway

SUMMARY: Pearl River Resort is celebrating its 30th anniversary with music, fireworks, and promotions. The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians-owned complex, including the Silver Star Hotel & Casino, Bok Homa Casino, Golden Moon Hotel & Casino, Dancing Rabbit Inn, and Geyser Falls, opened on July 1, 1994. Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben thanks the associates and guests for their dedication. Musical acts like Boyz II Men and Big & Rich will perform. Guests can enjoy free t-shirts on July 3 and a grand fireworks and drone show on July 4. A $30,000 promotion runs on July 5 and 6. More details are available on the resort’s website.

Bricen Rivers pleads not guilty to murder of ex-girlfriend Lauren Johansen

SUMMARY: Bricen Rivers has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, vehicle theft, and tampering with evidence related to the death of his ex-girlfriend, Lauren Johansen, whose body was found in a car trunk in Mississippi. Rivers fled the scene before his capture during a manhunt. The murder is believed to have occurred in Forrest County, and the case was transferred there. Rivers had previously been imprisoned for beating and kidnapping Johansen but was out on bond due to an administrative mistake.
