Pearl River County shelter experiencing dog overcrowding crisis
SUMMARY: The Pearl River County SPCA shelter urgently needs dog adoptions due to overcrowding, with over 130 dogs despite a capacity of 80. Many dogs are waiting up to 200 days for adoption as the shelter faces a high surrender rate, exacerbated by people returning to work post-COVID. This overcrowding strains finances and leads to increased stress and health issues among the dogs. The shelter director emphasizes the need to adopt at least 10 adult dogs weekly to maintain its no-kill status. Special discounted adoption events are being held, and a 30-day return policy is in place for potential adopters.
