Proposed Texas bill would require proof of citizenship in order to vote
SUMMARY: Texas lawmakers are debating Senate Bill 16, which would require voters to provide proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport, when registering. Opponents argue that this could disenfranchise U.S. citizens, particularly low-income or young voters who cannot afford or access these documents. They claim it could suppress voter participation. Supporters argue the bill is necessary to ensure election integrity and prevent ineligible individuals from voting, despite no evidence of widespread fraud. The bill, proposed by Senator Brian Hughes, could lead to penalties for officials who fail to verify citizenship before registering voters. The bill is pending in committee.

Opponents argue the requirement would disenfranchise U.S. citizens who don’t have copies of their birth certificates or passports and wouldn’t want to go through the time and expense to get the required documentation. Proponents said the law is necessary to ensure the integrity of Texas elections.

Two homes destroyed in fire on West Side, SAFD says; no injuries reported
SUMMARY: A fire destroyed two homes on San Antonio’s West Side near SeaWorld early this morning. The San Antonio Fire Department believes the blaze may have started between the homes, but everyone escaped safely, including a pet python. Toby Graham, whose home was affected, had forgotten his female ball python in her cage. Despite the fire, the snake managed to escape from the second floor cage, possibly aided by water sprayed by firefighters. The snake was later found unharmed and returned to Graham, who plans to take her to the vet and give her a name.

Two homes are expected to be total losses following a fire on the West Side on Thursday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Austin hit and run: Victim's attorney asking for help finding driver | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Austin police are seeking assistance in identifying the driver of a white commercial truck that struck 67-year-old Johnny Bradshaw in a crosswalk on February 8th. The incident, caught on surveillance, occurred at the intersection of Heather and South Lamar while Bradshaw was legally crossing. He suffered severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and spent 12 days hospitalized. Attorney Burgess Williams, representing Bradshaw, emphasizes the need for accountability, urging anyone with information to come forward. They aim to hold the driver liable, raise awareness about safety rules, and prevent future accidents in the community.

The attorney for a man who was severely injured in a hit-and-run last month is looking for help identifying the suspect’s vehicle.
