SUMMARY: The upcoming series “Ocean Park” offers a unique political thriller mystery, led by an all-Black cast, akin to “House of Cards.” It follows siblings Talcott and Mariah Garland who suspect foul play in their father’s death, igniting a conspiracy theory journey. The show promises unexpected twists and a grounded narrative. The cast includes Forest Whitaker, whose humility inspires great admiration. The speaker is also working on their debut feature film, “Sherman Park,” a horror allegory addressing recidivism, where a man faces societal hostility after prison. Their dream project includes roles in “Star Wars” or a reboot of “The Matrix.”

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Carter, “Emperor of Ocean Park” follows ‘Talcott Garland’ (Grantham Coleman “The Americans”), whose tranquil existence is upended by the death of his father ‘Judge Oliver Garland (Forest Whitaker). His sister ‘Mariah Garland’ (Tiffany Mack “Jessica Jones”), a former journalist and ardent conspiracy theorist, questions the manner of his death and thinks he was the victim of foul play. Paulina Lule plays Tal’s wife ‘Kimmer Garland’, a high-powered lawyer on the verge of being appointed a federal judgeship who sometimes neglects the feelings of those around her, including her husband, and who becomes a suspect in Mariah’s twisted conspiracy. #MGM

SUMMARY: House Speaker Jason White discussed the financial challenges facing Mississippi’s public employees retirement system during a talk at the Starkville Rotary Club. He acknowledged that the system, similar to Social Security, lacks enough funding to meet obligations. While lawmakers are committed to not harming retirees, significant action is needed, including possible legislative cash infusions. Despite contributing $110 million this past session, the system requires billions of dollars to stay solvent. White also highlighted efforts to cut taxes, even as the funding crisis persists, impacting many employees, including those at Mississippi State University.
