Oxford U S Army veteran gets new tiny home
SUMMARY: After learning about 71-year-old veteran Frankie Dunn’s challenging living conditions, an army of volunteers and donors took action. Following the death of his wife and a fire that destroyed their home, Dunn was living in a makeshift storage building when he suffered a stroke, halting renovations. Nonprofit 7 Days for the Troops collaborated with Purple Heart Homes to provide a 320-square-foot home for him. Within a week, volunteers set up the new residence, and Dunn, grateful for the support, expressed his appreciation. Organizers continue to seek donations to cover remaining home costs and assist other veterans in need.

SUMMARY: Marvin Willoughby, a Memphis man, was convicted for the 2017 homicide of 28-year-old Freddie Mosley at the Mustang Motel in Jackson, Mississippi. The incident occurred on September 12, when police found Mosley dead at the scene. Investigators identified Willoughby as the shooter through surveillance footage. After a two-week manhunt across multiple states, he was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Kansas. Authorities revealed he was also involved in human trafficking and prostitution, bringing women to Jackson for sex work. Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced the conviction.

SUMMARY: Harry Hylander pled guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of his grandmother, Sarah Hylander, 83, and uncle, David Hylander, 60, in Hinds County, Mississippi, in July 2021. Hylander later confessed to a family member about the killings and was arrested in Clinton. SUMMARY: A bridge on U.S. 80 over the Pearl River, at the Hinds/Rankin County line in Jackson, Mississippi, will be closed for several months starting December 2, 2024, due to deck replacement by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). The closure is expected to last until summer 2025. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, including I-20, I-55, State Street, and local roads. MDOT will install message boards to alert drivers about the upcoming closure.
