SUMMARY: The summer heat, thunderstorms, and mosquitoes can make outdoor activities challenging, but Parkway Elementary in Tupelo offers an indoor camping experience. Students at Parkway can learn and practice outdoor wilderness skills inside the school. They engaged in activities like fishing and hiking, albeit indoors, and even learned about campfire safety from the Tupelo fire department. Since indoor campfires are unsafe, they made s’mores in the microwave. This initiative equips children with camping skills they can use throughout the summer, whether indoors or outdoors. One camper expressed his love for hiking up mountains and rocks as his favorite part.
