Ouachita Green hosted annual water sweep today

SUMMARY: Hundreds of volunteers participated in the annual water sweep across Wasa Parish, helping to clean local waterways. Sammy Petco reported from the Forney Boat Dock in Monroe, one of 11 locations involved in the cleanup hosted by Green. Volunteers from families, schools, and local companies, including Graphic Packaging, expressed their commitment to keeping the environment clean and safe for the community. Students from Western R High School emphasized the importance of setting a good example and respecting their surroundings. A total of 359 volunteers contributed their time and effort, showcasing a community dedicated to environmental stewardship and cleanliness.

Over 350 volunteers ranging from 5 years old to 70 years old all came out to help in the annual water sweep across Ouachita Parish this morning from 8 AM to 11 AM. This sweep gives the opportunity for people from all around Ouachita Parish to give back to their community and help clean local waterways.

The Louisiana Department of Health’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund mismanaged $855,606 in federal funds, while the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness approved over $19 million in improper reimbursements. Additionally, $2.5 million was reimbursed without documentation. Local agencies, including the city of Bogalusa, misused ARPA funds for employee bonuses totaling $468,125. Fraud also occurred in Mamou due to a business email compromise, resulting in a loss of $226,330, and Calcasieu Parish Waterworks District lost $481,439 due to misappropriation of payments.
