Oklahoma senator co-authors bill to improve FEMA disaster response
SUMMARY: The Disaster Survivors Fairness Act, co-authored by Senator James Lankford, is a bipartisan bill that has advanced in the U.S. Senate. It aims to enhance FEMA’s response to natural disaster victims by reforming individual assistance programs. The legislation would empower FEMA to allocate funds more flexibly based on recovery needs and allow reimbursements to states for post-disaster housing initiatives. Senator Lankford emphasized the importance of streamlining assistance, citing past criticisms of FEMA’s slow and underfunded responses. With natural disasters increasing, the bill seeks to improve the efficiency of aid delivery to those affected.
