Op-Ed: Standing strong for Georgia, protecting voters, ensuring safety | Opinion
SUMMARY: As a veteran with extensive service, I’ve observed both the resilience and vulnerabilities of democracies worldwide. Recently, Georgia faced significant challenges, including bomb threats allegedly from Russia, which aimed to intimidate voters and undermine the election process. Thankfully, the coordinated response from election workers and first responders ensured public safety and upheld voter rights. Georgia implemented robust voting measures, leading to a record turnout of 5.28 million voters and earning high integrity ratings. Moving forward, my partnership with RightCount will advocate for transparency and accountability in elections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining trust and security in our democratic process.

SUMMARY: Israel’s Cabinet approved a ceasefire deal early Saturday for Gaza, aimed at releasing hostages and pausing the 15-month war with Hamas. The ceasefire starts Sunday, following an hours-long Cabinet meeting that extended into the Jewish Sabbath, emphasizing its importance. Under the agreement, 33 hostages, primarily women and children, will be released over six weeks, alongside over 700 Palestinian detainees. While humanitarian aid is expected to surge into Gaza, Israeli forces will withdraw from several areas. Ongoing tensions remain as questions about future negotiations and the region’s governance persist, alongside risks of political instability in Israel.

Augusta makes changes to debris removal, issues final pass guidance
SUMMARY: Since October 7, 2024, Augusta’s debris contractor, Ceres, has collected nearly 2.4 million cubic yards of vegetative debris and is nearing the end of the initial pass. Upcoming final pass details will identify zones for debris removal, starting next week with specific voting precincts. Residents should place debris in the right-of-way without mixing it with household waste, as mixed piles will not be collected. Smaller piles should be consolidated into larger ones, and items like stumps and root balls will be collected separately. For additional guidance, residents can visit augostaga.gov or contact Augusta 311.
