One arrested in Gulfport shooting, another suspect still wanted

SUMMARY: Cornelius Demetric Lampley Jr., a 17-year-old, was arrested and charged with an armed robbery and aggravated assault on August 4, 2023, by the Gulfport Police Department. The victim reported he was selling a firearm under circumstances that led to the gunfire. Lampley and another suspect identified as Marcus Howard Peterson allegedly tried to rob the firearm vendor, during which the victim was shot. As police continue their investigations, they report Peterson is still at large, armed and dangerous. Lampley was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on a $450,000 bond.

NCBC Gulfport to Participate in Annual Navy Force Protection Exercise

SUMMARY: The Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport will conduct the annual Exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2025 from February 3-14, 2025. This exercise, coordinated by U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Navy Installations Command, consists of a field training exercise (Citadel Shield) and a command post exercise (Solid Curtain) aimed at improving readiness and interoperability among Navy security forces and partner agencies. Although designed to enhance security, the exercise may cause increased traffic and delays around the base.
