On this day in history, October 20, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd bandmates killed in horrific plane crash
SUMMARY: On October 20, 1977, a plane crash tragically claimed the lives of three members of the iconic rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd: lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines. The small Convair CV-240 ran out of fuel at 10,000 feet, crashing in a wooded area on the Louisiana-Mississippi border. Alongside the band members, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick and the flight crew also perished. Despite the tragedy, 20 survived. A memorial was erected near the crash site in 2019, honoring the enduring legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd, revered for classic hits like “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird.”

Stolen vehicle found submerged in the Barnett Reservoir
SUMMARY: In Rankin County, Mississippi, a submerged stolen vehicle was discovered in the Barnett Reservoir on October 24.
