Ole Miss holds on to outlast Mississippi State 86-82 in front of record-breaking crowd
SUMMARY: On Tuesday night, the Ole Miss Rebels (18-3, 5-3 SEC) defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs (14-7, 3-5 SEC) 86-82 amid a record-breaking crowd over 10,000 at the SJB Pavilion. First-year head coach Chris Beard led Ole Miss to victory with Juju Murray putting up 21 points and 11 assists. Mississippi State, with freshman Josh Hubbard contributing 21 points, initially led but couldn’t maintain their advantage as turnovers stifled their effort. Despite the Bulldogs’ impressive field goal and three-point percentages, Ole Miss’ superior free-throw shooting and fewer turnovers carried them through. The closely fought game included consistent lead changes and a missed opportunity by Mississippi State at the free-throw line in the closing seconds, sealing the Rebels’ win. Ole Miss continues their home win streak with hopes of extending it against Auburn, while Mississippi State will aim for recovery against Alabama. The teams will face off again on February 21.

Mississippi lawmakers fail to beat budget deadlines, making special session a possibility
SUMMARY: Mississippi lawmakers are struggling to finalize a budget for the state government after missing deadlines for funding that begins July 1, 2025. While the Senate convened for negotiations over the weekend, House Speaker Jason White allowed House members to leave, advocating for early budget discussions to ensure transparency and thorough review. Senate leaders criticized this decision, claiming it jeopardizes state services and accusing the House of delaying negotiations, as they sought agreement on around 70 budget-related bills. The failure to agree has led to two funding options: extending the current session or calling a costly special session.
