Lawmakers say investigation didn't cover key concerns
SUMMARY: An investigation into the Oklahoma State Department of Education found no criminal wrongdoing but highlighted significant communication breakdowns. State Superintendent Ryan Walters claimed vindication from the findings. However, several lawmakers, including Rep. Mark McBride, expressed dissatisfaction, claiming the investigation failed to address critical issues, particularly concerning the misuse of school safety funds. McBride is pushing for a more comprehensive investigation amidst concerns about Walters’ spending on out-of-state trips and rising legal costs. These legislators argue that without a thorough examination of these matters, accountability cannot be ensured, leaving many questions unanswered.

Oklahoma breaking records as Day 3 of early voting ends
SUMMARY: Oklahoma’s early voting turnout for the general election has exceeded expectations, with over 237,000 in-person votes cast by Fridayโ70,000 more than recorded in all of 2020. Long lines have been seen as voters wait hours to vote early. The state election board noted a higher participation rate among registered Republicans compared to 2020, while Democratic voting remains steady. Historically, Oklahomans prefer voting in person on Election Day, but the current trend suggests a significant shift in early voting habits. The election board urges voters to be patient and kind to poll workers as turnout remains high.

Some Oklahoma City public housing receives below acceptable grade from inspectors
SUMMARY: The Oklahoma City Housing Authority has received a failing inspection score of 7 out of 100 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for nearly 450 scattered-site homes. Inspections, conducted under new HUD standards, identified issues such as clogged drains and missing smoke detectors. The housing authority acknowledged that the score is below acceptable levels but noted that standards for deficiencies have changed, impacting their rating. They are actively pursuing financial avenues to fund renovations. In contrast, other larger properties within the authority, such as the Senior Center and McGuire Plaza, received higher scores of 93 out of 100.
