OK farmers hopeful crop purchasing programs will continue under USDA
SUMMARY: Oklahoma farmers are concerned about potential cuts to U.S. food aid programs that have historically supported them and contributed to global food security. Recent reductions in USAID funding create uncertainty as farmers rely on these programs to stabilize markets. In response, a new bill aims to transfer the Food for Peace program to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which farmers believe could benefit them long-term. However, the impact of the current administration’s policies raises apprehensions among farmers about their future. Local agriculture officials emphasize the importance of market development opportunities both domestically and internationally.

Families lose trust after Transplant Foundation closes
SUMMARY: Nearly a year after the National Foundation for Transplants closed unexpectedly, many families, including the O’Briens, are still struggling. Eric O’Brien, who has been waiting for a kidney transplant, lost nearly $5,000 when the foundation shut down without refunding the money. Families now lack trust in other organizations, and some, like the O’Briens, are raising funds on their own. Integra, a transplant organization, reports that since May 2024, 207 patients have been added to the transplant waiting list. Despite this, families continue to grapple with the emotional toll of losing their financial support.
