Officials eyeing December opening date for Mississippi’s first Topgolf
SUMMARY: Mississippi will soon welcome its first Topgolf location in Ridgeland, following three years of planning. Situated off Interstate 55 at Colony Park Boulevard, the venue is set to open in December, as announced by Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee. The facility will feature 60 climate-controlled outdoor hitting bays, a chef-driven menu, drinks, music, and year-round programming, along with Topgolf’s proprietary Toptracer technology. Beyond golfing, it will host events like receptions and birthday parties. Additionally, the site will evolve into Prado Vista, which will include a grocery store, hotels, office space, and a riverwalk, creating 200 jobs and generating over $1 million in tax revenue.

Federal judge rules Jackson officials did not discriminate when moving offices from Metrocenter Mall
SUMMARY: A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit against Jackson filed by Retro Metro, LLC, after the city ended its lease early at Metrocenter Mall due to unsafe conditions, including raw sewage and water leaks. Retro Metro sought damages for breach of contract, as the city had moved offices to a new location. The judge also dismissed a separate discrimination claim by Retro Metro, which alleged preferential treatment for white-owned companies. The court concluded that the city acted to protect employees and the public, and the decision to relocate was not racially motivated, as emphasized by Jackson’s officials.

Republicans on House Ethics reject for now releasing report on Matt Gaetz
SUMMARY: The House Ethics Committee Republicans voted against releasing findings from their investigation into former Rep. Matt Gaetz, Trump’s nominee for attorney general, amidst sexual misconduct allegations. This decision offers Gaetz temporary relief but does not end the scrutiny he faces during his confirmation process. The committee will meet again on December 5. GOP senators have expressed support for Gaetz, framing the opposition as a politically motivated attack. Despite Gaetz’s denial of allegations, the scrutiny continues, with Senate Judiciary Democrats demanding evidence from the FBI. With Republicans gaining majority control, confirmation hearings for Trump’s nominees are expected to begin in January.
