Ocean Springs property owners challenge slum designation in federal lawsuit
SUMMARY: Residents in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, are suing the city after neighborhoods were secretly declared blighted slums, potentially paving the way for eminent domain proceedings. The lawsuit, supported by the Institute for Justice (IJ) non-profit law firm, alleges that the city has violated the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. While the city has paused redevelopment plans, there is no indication that the blight designations will be reconsidered. Under Mississippi law, property owners had only 10 days to contest the designation, but residents claim they were only made aware of the labels months later when the city released a redevelopment plan on Facebook.

Doctors warn of sepsis as a significant threat, though no evidence of it has emerged. Faithful are uniting in prayer for the pontiff’s recovery.
