Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen deny Urban Renewal Plan
SUMMARY: A community candlelight vigil will be held tomorrow at 5pm at Gautier High School Stadium. The Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen voted 4-3 to deny the revised urban renewal plan, removing six zones from the original maps after backlash from residents. The purpose of urban renewal focused on tourism development, economic development, and recreational mixed-use. In response, Mayor Kenny Holloway said there may have been some misunderstanding with the board on what they’re trying to do, which was decided at a meeting last night. This decision removes 22 acres and a developer building a high-end hotel and conference center from city-owned properties.
