IRS is sending out automatic stimulus payments. Who is getting them?
SUMMARY: The IRS is distributing approximately $2.4 billion to about 1 million taxpayers who overlooked claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns, which could provide up to $1,400 per individual. This initiative was announced after the IRS identified eligible taxpayers who filed their returns but didn’t claim the credit. Payments will be made automatically by late January without requiring amended returns. Taxpayers who haven’t filed for 2021 can still claim the credit by the April 15, 2025 deadline. The program aims to assist those who missed out on previous Economic Impact Payments during the pandemic.
