NWS completes damage survey after Monday's storms

Darren Jones, meteorologist in charge for the National Weather Service of Memphis, explained the findings. The affected area was near Pickle Road or Dill Road in southern Monroe County, with winds reaching around 50 miles per hour. Despite significant tree damage, the winds uprooted fully-leafed trees due to recent heavy rainfall. Jones clarifies straight-line winds from tornadoes by observing debris patterns; in this case, trees were uniformly laid out towards the east. He thanked the community and advised them to stay safe.

The National Weather Service has completed a damage survey following Monday’s storms that hit Monroe County. Chief Meteorologist Matt Laubhan sat down with the NWS Memphis to discuss their findings.

Tupelo waiting on Target to make decision on new store
