North Carolina Forecast: Cold stretch, 20-degree mornings ahead, Black Friday brings chilly weather
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner reports a chilly morning following a cold front. Temperatures will reach the mid-50s this afternoon, significantly cooler than yesterday. Tonight marks the first hard freeze of the season, with lows dipping into the 20s. Winds gusting up to 20 mph will make it feel even colder. Looking ahead, another cold blast is expected early next week, dropping temperatures to the low 20s by Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Highs will be in the mid-40s, feeling like the 30s due to wind chills. Despite the cold, the Tower lighting ceremony on Wednesday will be dry and pleasantly chilly.

Temperatures become much colder beginning Friday, with lows in the 20s and 30s possible for the weekend and into the first week of December. By next Monday and Tuesday, highs will be in the mid 40s! The combination of cold air and gusty winds will be a shock to the system each morning this weekend. Wind chills locally will be in the 20s, but they will be even lower in the mountains.
Highs will drop into the upper 40s on Saturday and the low 50s on Sunday, making for a very chilly weekend. There isn’t much rain in the forecast for post-holiday travel. Looking ahead to next week, after a frigid Monday and Tuesday, highs begin to warm. Thursday will be in the mid 50s, and Friday could reach 60 degrees.
The week as a whole looks dry and cold-to-mild with very chilly mornings in the 20s and 30s.

5 On Your Side: What do egg labels really mean?
SUMMARY: Egg prices are rising, with a 10.4% increase since January, averaging $5.90 per dozen. This surge is attributed to inflation and bird flu. Consumers can find prices between $7 and $9 depending on various factors, including egg types like cage-free and free-range. The Elliot family highlights the rising costs, purchasing 18 eggs for $10. While cage-free means hens aren’t caged, they may still be kept indoors. Organic eggs require no synthetic feed and must have some outdoor access. Terms like “farm fresh” and “natural” lack meaningful definitions. Eggs can remain safe to eat 3 to 5 weeks after refrigeration.
