SUMMARY: Our next system is currently over the Southern Plains and is developing an area of low pressure that will ride the coast and swing rain our way. There is also a small chance for a brief wintry mix for some spots. However, the weather looks good for evening plans with lows near the freezing mark tonight and an umbrella recommended for Wednesday. Our next system is developing and currently headed our way.

SUMMARY: As the holiday season approaches, local food pantries are in urgent need of supplies. The Laurel Jones County Library is launching its “Food for Fines” initiative this November, allowing patrons to reduce library fines by $1 for each donated canned item, up to $10. Suggested donations include canned meat, fruits, vegetables, rice, and peanut butter. The effort aims to support organizations like the Christian Food Mission and the Glory House, which serve families in need. Donations can be made even without fines at the library, enhancing its community support beyond educational resources.

SUMMARY: Jackson city leaders, including Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, Councilman Aaron Banks, and District Attorney Jody Owens, face a bribery scandal after pleading not guilty to multiple federal charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, and racketeering. The indictments have created turmoil within the city government, prompting council members to stress the need for rebuilding community trust and focusing on city business professionally. This situation follows the resignation of Angelique Lee, who admitted guilt in a related bribery case. The trial for the indicted officials is set for early next year, with potential severe consequences if convicted.
