SUMMARY: Tropical Depression Barrel, formerly a tropical storm, is losing strength due to the lack of warm Gulf waters. With maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and moving North-Northeast at 17 mph, Barrel made landfall near the Madagorda area, progressed through Texas, and is now impacting Arkansas. The system is expected to lose its tropical characteristics by tomorrow, transitioning to influence the Midwest and Great Lakes regions midweek. Barrel has caused severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings, particularly affecting Shreveport and Arkansas. Gusty winds up to 30 mph and scattered showers are expected, with conditions calming down by midweek, leading to drier weather on Wednesday and Thursday.

www.youtube.com – WJTV 12 News – 2025-04-02 19:48:19

SUMMARY: In Jackson’s Democratic mayoral primary, Senator John Horn nearly avoided a runoff despite low voter turnout. Horn will face incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba in a runoff on April 22nd, after securing over 7,000 more votes than Lumumba. Many voters, including some who typically lean Republican, supported Horn for his hard campaigning and ability to get things done. However, Horn’s vote share fell short of the 50% needed to avoid a runoff. The winner of the runoff will advance to the June 3rd general election. Voters are seeking a mayor who is transparent and effective in managing city resources.
