SUMMARY: Rain is moving out after steady downpours since yesterday. Eastern regions received about half an inch, while Western regions saw up to two inches. Meridian picked up a little over an inch yesterday and nearly half an inch today. Currently, light rain persists in spots like Chocktaw County. Conditions are humid with potential dense fog overnight. Wednesday may bring more showers and storms due to upper-level disturbances and an approaching storm complex. A cold front arriving Thursday will clear the rain and reduce humidity, leading to pleasant weather for Friday and the weekend. Showers may return by Sunday, but overall, the weekend looks dry and warm.

Tiny homes help homeless people
SUMMARY: Thomas White, Executive Director of the Jackson Resource Center, is dedicated to helping the homeless find a place to call home. Inspired by a purpose from God, she is spearheading a project called The Junction, which will consist of 80 tiny homes on Capers Avenue. After 12 years of advocacy, the initiative aims to create a one-stop campus for those facing homelessness. Each home will offer 1 or 2 bedrooms, fully furnished with essential items. Residents will cover 30% of their rent, with subsidies provided to ensure affordability and improve lives in the community.

Mississippi voters head back to polls for runoff elections
SUMMARY: As Thanksgiving approaches, voter turnout for runoff elections is low, with polls opening at 7 AM and around 3,000 absentee ballots collected, including mail-ins. Officials stress that every vote counts, emphasizing the urgency to participate before polls close at 7 PM. Key races include incumbent Justice Jim Kitchens defending his position against Republican-backed State Senator Jenifer Branning and a contest for the Hinds County Court Judge District Two seat between Bridget Morgan and Jimmy King. Runoff races are taking place in nearly 50 counties across Mississippi, and voters still in line at closing time will be allowed to cast their ballots.

Homeless encampment removed in Tupelo
SUMMARY: Homelessness is a pressing issue in Tupelo, prompting city officials to dismantle a homeless encampment near downtown. Veronica Mahia reports on the situation, highlighting how city employees began removing belongings and relocating individuals. One woman who lived under a bridge for nearly a year expressed her concerns over conflicts among residents and police interventions. Volunteer efforts, such as those from Emanuel Church of God in Christ, aimed to support the displaced individuals with food. Critics argue that the city’s actions lack consideration for the homeless population’s immediate needs, as the removal coincides with cold weather and scarce resources.
