New vehicle inspection laws in Texas
SUMMARY: Starting tomorrow, several new laws in Texas will take effect, notably the elimination of vehicle inspections for most drivers. However, in North Texas, residents still need to undergo emissions testing, particularly in larger counties like Dallas and Denton, due to pollution concerns. While traditional vehicle inspections are no longer required, a $7.50 registration fee remains applicable. AAA emphasizes the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and inspections to ensure safety. Additionally, other new laws concerning privacy and property taxes will also be implemented, with the legislature returning to Austin on the 14th to introduce further legislation.

Laws impacting state inspections, property tax and how you can manage your digital privacy will all go into effect in Texas for the new year.

Is RFK Jr. cracking down on poppers?
SUMMARY: Several brands producing amyl nitrite products, commonly known as “poppers,” have halted operations due to intervention from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Double Scorpio, a popular manufacturer, revealed the shutdown followed an FDA search at their offices. While poppers are inhaled for sexual enhancement, their sale as drugs is illegal, and they can only be marketed for other uses, like cleaning products. The FDA warns against their use due to serious health risks, including respiratory issues and heart problems. Many retailers are now limiting their online presence amid the FDA’s increased scrutiny.

Air taxis flying over Austin? Public piloting vehicles that could redefine commutes
SUMMARY: At SXSW in Austin, participants tested the Hexa, a personal flying machine by Lift Aircraft promising to transform commutes, reducing travel times drastically. Powered by 18 propellers, Hexa can cover up to ten miles in just 15 minutes. It requires only an hour of training, incorporating VR simulations, and aims to establish “vertiports” in major cities for public use. Although not available for individual purchase initially, the aircraft features safety measures like independent propellers and a ballistic parachute. Despite weather-related challenges, attendees expressed enthusiasm about the potential of Hexa, likening it to future household vehicles like ATVs.
