New trial date set for man accused of killing still-missing Ole Miss student
SUMMARY: A new trial date has been set for Sheldon Timothy Herrington, Jr., accused of murdering missing Ole Miss student Jimmie “Jay” Lee. The trial will commence on December 2, 2024, with jury selection from another county and jurors will be sequestered. Herrington was arrested shortly after Lee disappeared in July 2022 and was indicted for capital murder in March 2023. Despite extensive pretrial publicity, defense and prosecution have requested case files to be sealed. Lee’s body has not been found, but prosecutors believe it may be in Lafayette or Grenada County.
