SUMMARY: Mississippi’s capital is addressing carjackings with a new task force that aligns with the U.S. Department of Justice’s strategy to reduce violent crime. The task force, led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, includes the FBI, ATF, and local law enforcement such as the Jackson Police Department and Capitol Police. This collaboration will focus on apprehending and prosecuting perpetrators, sharing intelligence, and enforcing federal sentencing enhancements, especially in cases involving juveniles. Prior collaborative initiatives, like “Operation Unified,” have already shown success, resulting in 600 arrests, the seizure of 200 illegal firearms, and 500 pounds of drugs in just over a month.
