SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce is opening a new application round for its Wild Hog Control Program starting Thursday, with a deadline of February 15. All Mississippi counties can participate. The initiative counters wild hog damage which costs over $60 million annually by providing “smart” traps to private landowners and managers for agricultural and forestry land protection. Commissioner Andy Gipson encourages farmers to apply, especially those with past losses, to receive both equipment and expert trapping guidance. Applications should be completed online, with consideration given to property size, historical damage, and current trapping endeavors. Cooperative applications for smaller acreages are advised for better chances of success. Program details and applications are available on the MDAC website.
