SUMMARY: The Tupelo Humane Society and Safe Incorporated have received a national grant to help domestic violence survivors and their pets. The grant will be used to create a pet safe space at the Safe Incorporated shelter in Tupelo, transport pets to temporary shelters, recruit potential fosters, and more. Mississippi and North Dakota have been identified as “safe haven deserts,” areas with the greatest unmet need for services to accommodate pets for domestic violence survivors. This grant will help bridge that gap and increase efforts to help survivors and their pets in these areas.
