New emergency management building coming to Pickens County
SUMMARY: Pickens County is set to construct a new multi-million dollar emergency services facility, improving response capabilities and addressing future growth. The 32,000-square-foot building, to be built on the existing site, will replace an outdated structure and include new training rooms and storage for emergency vehicles. Funded by federal COVID relief funds and the county’s general fund, the project is part of a larger $10 million radio upgrade. Groundbreaking is scheduled for next Thursday, with construction commencing in January and expected to take about a year to complete. The facility aims to serve the county for 25 to 30 years.

Surging job market could prove costly for households, businesses as odds of quick rate cuts fade
SUMMARY: U.S. job growth surged in December with an addition of 256,000 jobs, pushing unemployment down to 4.1%. This upbeat labor market contrasts sharply with expectations of recession and indicates the economy is rebounding post-COVID. The Federal Reserve, facing persistent inflation and high interest rates, may hold off on further rate cuts, impacting borrowing costs for consumers and businesses. Despite fewer jobs created than in previous years, average wages rose 3.9% year-over-year. While the economy maintains a solid pace, challenges remain, such as rising prices and labor shortages in various sectors, highlighting mixed sentiments among Americans regarding economic recovery.
