New cell phone pilot program launches for some public schools in Virginia
SUMMARY: A new cell phone pilot program has been launched in Virginia’s public middle schools, where students use special pouches to store their phones at the beginning of the day. If they forget their pouch, they must leave their phone in the school office. The pouches are unlocked with a magnetic device when students leave school. High school students face less stringent rules, as they are required to store their phones in a secure area of the classroom at the start of each period. This initiative has garnered bipartisan support across the state.
The students are given a pouch to put their phones in at the start of each school day. If they forget the pouch, they must leave their phone in the school’s office.
