New area code announced for north and central Mississippi
SUMMARY: By 2026, a new area code, 471, will be introduced in North and Central Mississippi, as announced by the Mississippi Public Service Commission. Existing 662 area code customers will retain their current numbers, but new customers or requests for new lines may receive the 471 area code once it becomes active. Additional information will be provided when the process begins in late 2025 or early 2026.
The new area code is 471, the Mississippi Public Service Commission (MPSC) announced on Thursday afternoon, June 27.

2 people in custody after apartment shooting
SUMMARY: A front will pass tomorrow, but in developing news, there was a shooting this afternoon at the Park at Inverness apartment complex. Jackson Police reported that around 1 PM, multiple suspects were involved in a shootout, damaging cars and buildings. Two people of interest have since been taken into custody.

Tenth annual “AD 47 Leadership Academy” a success
SUMMARY: AEM Davis, a former Laurel star and now college football coach, held his 10th Annual 847 Leadership Academy on Saturday.
