What Trump’s Education Department order means for Americans
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump’s executive order to dismantle the Department of Education has sparked concern among borrowers, especially regarding student loans. The White House has announced that the Small Business Administration (SBA), led by Kelly Laughler, will take over managing the $1.8 trillion student loan portfolio. The move also involves cutting 43% of SBA staff. Students across the country rallied against the decision, expressing fear over potential cuts to essential programs. Trump assured that special needs funding will be handled by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., aiming to protect children with disabilities.

President Donald Trump’s order calling for the dismantling of the U.S. Education Department has complex implications.
The Republican president has argued the federal office hasn’t improved student outcomes and is unnecessary in a country where states and local districts primarily control education from funding to hiring and curriculum.

Whistleblower sues Children’s Hospital after controversial firing
SUMMARY: Dr. Tom Curran, the former head of Children’s Mercy Research Institute (CMRI), has filed a lawsuit against Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH) for wrongful termination, age discrimination, and whistleblowing. Curran claims he was fired for raising concerns about former CEO Paul Kempinski’s misuse of donor funds intended for research. The lawsuit also details conflicts over CMH’s plans to use donor money for non-research purposes, such as housing corporate services. Curran alleges CMH has denied him access to his research data and lab materials. The case has sparked criticism from donors, and an investigation led to Kempinski’s resignation in 2024.
