Nearly 40 years later, genetic genealogy helps ID remains of DeSoto County Jane Doe

SUMMARY: After nearly four decades, a Jane Doe from DeSoto County, identified through genetic genealogy, has been confirmed as Lori Ann Mealer Pennell by Othram. Her remains were discovered in 1985 alongside Highway 78, and despite distinctive features such as tattoos, piercings, and a surgical scar, her identity remained a mystery. In 2022, funding from philanthropist Carla Davis facilitated DNA testing by Othram, leading to her identification. Pennell, born on September 6, 1962, was last seen at a truck stop before her disappearance. Her murder case is still ongoing, and more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
