Businesses, consumers urged to beware of scams this holiday season
SUMMARY: As the holiday season approaches, Mississippi officials warn of increasing scams targeting businesses and consumers. A notable scam involves misleading mail from C.F.S., which falsely claims to prepare mandatory annual reports for a fee. This mail is unauthorized by the state. Additionally, scammers may impersonate charitable organizations. The Mississippi Public Service Commission advises vigilance, urging individuals to verify the legitimacy of solicitations, avoid sharing personal information, recognize high-pressure tactics, and educate household members on common scams. Reporting suspicious activities to the Attorney General’s Office is encouraged. Staying informed can help protect communities during this festive season.
